In situations where the ambient temperature falls below that of the water or fluid contained within a pipe or vessel, heat energy is lost from these systems. This loss of heat energy, if not replaced, can cause these fluids to freeze. Water expands as it freezes which can lead to pipeline blockages or breakages. This may not only be inconvenient but can have a significant financial or catastrophic effect on process plant installations.

Typical industrial examples of these process systems are:

  • Towns water distribution pipe work
  • Safety showers
  • Cooling systems
  • Fire mains
  • Sprinkler systems
  • Steam lines

In conjunction with the correct size and type of thermal insulation, R&D can design, supply and install the most appropriate type of trace heating cable, control system and components for both hazardous and non-hazardous installations.

We can either provide the heating cable and components only, which can be purchased directly form R&D or from our online shop, or we can offer a complete turnkey solution, which includes:

  • The design and installation of the trace heating cable and components.
  • The design and manufacture of the trace heating control panels.
  • The design, and installation of all the power and control cables.
  • The installation of all cable containment systems.
  • Additionally, working with our thermal insulation partners, we can supply and install the thermal insulation.
